This series of ceramic wall tiles are inspired by the resiliency and vulnerability of the polar bear. I wanted to show these hungry bears in contrast to the littered coke cans as if they were icebergs or other parts of their environment, just as a reminder of our human impact on their survival.

Each of these tiles are handmade in a press mold, using earthenware clay. I apply a slip to the surface and scratch the drawings through the surface. Once they are fired, I apply color and stains, a little glaze, and then fire one more time.
